To understand why urinary incontinence happens, it helps to first know how the male urinary system is built and how it functions. Its main role is to remove excess fluids and waste products from the body — a process that takes place through urination.
When we drink fluids and eat food, nutrients are absorbed through the digestive system and enter the bloodstream. The body uses what it needs and filters out what it doesn’t — including extra fluid and waste — through the kidneys. These paired organs act as natural filters, processing dozens of liters of blood every day to produce urine.
Once formed, urine travels from the kidneys to the bladder through narrow tubes called ureters. This movement happens automatically, driven by muscle contractions and gravity. Urine then collects in the bladder, where it’s stored until it's time to be released.
